Patina Art
April 2nd, 2009
It’s always a joy to get a client who trusts us enough to let our creative juices flow when designing an art piece. We were recently commissed to create a piece of art using copper. Our site visit showed us that the client favors straight lines and geometric symmetry – but also has a deep love of nature in all forms. We were excited to take the opportunity to bring large, rectangular panels together with the natural beauty of copper patina, and the added texture of an agave silhouette. The result, if we do say so ourselves, was pretty stunning (click for gallery). Look for this technique to be in more upcoming projects. Want one for yourself? Call us! 480.786.0074
Quite “surreal”…
January 23rd, 2009
We know, you’re all wondering what we have been doing the last six months. We know, we’ve been boring bloggers! New Years resolution: blog more. Okay, so here we go.
Several of our latest projects were for a Latin American restaurant in Tucson, AZ. “Sur Real” is located at Skyline and Campbell, across from the La Encantada shopping mall. The designer of this restaurant really went all out, from green glitter ceiling coverings to lighted tropical wall panels to a hand-molded banyan tree in the entryway. And then of course there were our unique contributions…

Green Update
January 20th, 2009
As we move forward on our “CKV Green” initiative, we continue to look for manufacturers who make green materials. Plywood plays a major role in the construction of built-ins (custom cabinets). Last week, the Columbia Forest Products representative for Arizona came into our shop to talk about their green products. We were particularly interested in their PUREBOND plywood. They have several variations available but our focus is on Veneer Core & Classic Core. Veneer core consists of all layers being a plywood veneer while Classic Core consists of plywood veneer layers and phenolic MDF cross bands. Both variations of PUREBOND plywood qualify for CARB (California Air Resources Board) & LEED NC EQ 4.4 (Urea-formaldehyde-free resins in core and lamination adhesives) standards. Take a look at one our latest projects in the wood gallery: Built-in Bench Seating. The carcasses were fabricated with PUREBOND 3/4″ Classic Core pre-finished Maple.
