13 Oct October 2013 Newsletter
Welcome to the October 2013 edition of the CK Valenti Designs Newsletter! In this issue: A sleek, modern kitchen designed and built for Solar Decathlon 2013 ASUNM Shade Team – Sustainable House – Kitchen & Bath For the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013, Arizona State University and The University of New Mexico designed a house that celebrates its unique equilibrium with the desert environment. SHADE (Solar Homes Adapting for Desert Equilibrium) is intended to grow and adapt with its users by creating microclimates that mediate between the landscape and the interior environment. With independent modules that can be combined in various configurations and a prominent solar canopy that provides a shaded outdoor extension of the house, SHADE is built for a community-oriented, indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The Solar Decathlon 2013 competition took place from October 3-13, 2013 in Irvine, CA. After the competition, the home will be shipped back to Arizona to be part of the Phoenix Renews initiative, as the model home for sustainability. The cabinetry is made from high-gloss Rigid Thermofoil (RTF), giving the design a sleek, clean, modern look.
